Bought a tool box a while back and found this tucked underneath the lip of the top tray. Emailed the guy back so we could meet up somewhere and never heard back.

Trying to figure out what this is. I'm going to be in his neck of the woods later this month and thought I'd drop by. But if he's not there I guess I'll keep it.

I assume it's a locking screwdriver. But is it made for working on carburetor or what?

In case the pics are not clear, it says OLDFORGE (all caps, one word) Made in USA. TX9.

Google not helping me much. Thanks in advance.

It's a screwstarter. It "starts " screws in places your hands can't reach.

Thanks everyone. I assume it's worth about $5 max? I see Snap On has them for $10 to $15 so I can't image this one is worth anywhere near that.

The guy I bought the box from lives over an hour away and only lives there for part of the year. Just trying to decide how much effort I'm willing to put in to getting it back to him.

Yeah, a few bucks at the most. The tool was made my Ullman. They rebadge these for a whole lot of brands (Snap On included, who adds a hefty markup).

It is a handy tool to have around. You have the long version (my favorite of this type). It often has a magnet on one end too.

There is also a version out there made for phillips screws, where the two blade halves form a triangle.

For slotted screws though, I generally prefer the style that has two wedges held together by a sliding sleeve. It holds the screws a little more tightly.
