40 years ago I bought a full set of tools from a retired VW mechanic. This was in the box. It's marked TRK 3/8. It's been setting in my tool box ever since. I don't have a clue what it is. It has a collar that slides back an forth. Any one have any ideas ???

It is a thread insert tool to drive in a 3/8'' key locking insert like this.

You can see that style tool in the back right of this picture

And in this

Once the insert is screwed in to the workpiece, that tool is used along with a hammer to drive the locking tabs down to prevent spinout of the insert.

Here is some more info:

I may add, since it may be used on a VW, a 3/8'' insert tool is also used for 10mm inserts.

most likely to rebuild spark plug holes/threads...those old VWs were notorious for pushed out plugs

Keen-Sert. Any spark plug that blew out was because someone messed up the threads previously and just screwed the plug in anyway without fixing the threads.
