I found this on Craigslist for $25 and I am just curious what it is. The seller says it is an old school snap on top box. Looking for a model # or year anything. The seller claims its 26"x 18"x18"

It was in stillwater. I love having CL at work. I called him within 5 mins of him having it online and he held it for me until after work.

The thing is certainly in need of some help, it was sitting in a barn. But knowing that the snap on guy will warranty the slides on it ( the top 2 slides have some pidgeon **** for lube) It did come with the key but the guy had mounted a few things on the chrome rail along the top of it putting a few holes in the chrome rail. And I don't think that it has any of the chrome finger rails for the drawers. I think once I finally get the KR1000 finished I might have to do a restore on this one.

Where would the model and serial numbers be on this thing. I have looked it over and cant find any indication. Would they be stamped and painted over ?

This thing has different drawer dividers in every drawer. Would that distinguish between the KR533C vs a KR533A? I have seen a few different variations of this and the main thing that I see changing is the Snap on Emblem on the bottom right corner. Would that also be an indication of the year of manufacture

look on all 4 corners of the back of the toolbox. i'd start by looking in the lower right corner of the back.

in January i got a snap on kra-53 for $14 in about the same condition as you describe.


pull the bottom drawer out and see if you can find any tools

Yeah, it might. It could be other things too, like a revised gusset or brace somewhere, different wiggitmajig or something else.

That box is displayed in the 1982 catalog with the same style nameplate as yours. I would guess they did not make this box much past 1982. Probably didn't make that many to begin with.

Had a chance to check it out a little more after work yesterday, and it is in need of some help. Nothing it too major other than the cost of paint at $80 a quart. Where the lid meets the box on the right hand side, the corner is split at the seam about 3inches, and the guy had a thing for putting screws in the chrome trim around the top of the thing. All of the drawers sag pretty bad when you pull them out, and the bottom drawer slides are about toast. Im not at all complaining for the price I paid, but I feel I just bought myself into another project and I haven't finished the first box restore yet on my KR1000.

Do any of you know if there all ball bearing style drawer slides that I could convert to? I ma going to use this as my overflow tool-box for my cart, and will most likely have to part with the KR1000 when I get it finished. Anyone in the Twin Citys thats looking for a KR1000 70th anniversary edition with shiny new chrome let me know $2000

no i never emailed the guy on it. Stillwater is like a good hour + from me. not worth the drive especially through the twin cities.


cody, i have a snap on blue point top and bottom toolbox as well as a snap on heavy duty road chest up for sale. i'd be willing to trade them for the kr1000 possibly.

i think you said you were a foreman or something or run a crew. since you had a break in in your truck my snap on heavy duty road chest would fit nicely in the back of your truck. it takes 2 people to carry it empty and even then it weighs a **** load. can't imagine it when its full.

Dave my only issue is that I dont need any more tool boxes. I have that front covered I need tools and cash more than anything else. I would be interested in whats in the box potentially. Give me a call sometime and we can try and work something out

i'd probably consider a toolbox trade and cash/trade if your up for that. i paid $1000 for my kr1000 and i can't imagine paying more then that because a 2nd or 3rd is only worth that to me aswell lol
