Any ideas what this might be for?
This tool came from my fathers 70 year collection of old tools. He was a auto mechanic by trade and collected a variety of tools and junk. Their now in my collection of treasures. He was also a gun collector, so I believe this might be some sort of gunsmith tool. Turning the wood knob expands the distance between the vertical clamps. The rod at the bottom fits perfectly into a .30-06 rifle. Identifying this thing has haunted me for years.
