Going through some of my Dads old tools and ran across this. Anyone have an idea of what it is? It is about 8 inches long and the shaft is flexible and looks like part of an old speedometer cable.

A puller for removing packing from valve or pump packing glands.

I think the name is flexible shaft packing extractor. For removing the packing material in a “stuffing box”. Maybe someone can elaborate more.

I’m learning here too. Not that I ever seen one used but have seen plenty of that tool. Some photos off the web.
