What is It?

I hope this is OK to post here. It's not tool related but I did find it in my garage while we were using tools!

A few weeks ago we installed a lift kit and shocks on my daughters 2016 Jeep JK. After we were done and I was cleaning up I found this on the garage floor where all of the new parts were. It is clearly not part of the lift kit and it's not listed in any of the parts diagrams. It is new because the end of the wire still had the pigtail left on.

We're puzzled on where this came from.

Feed it 12 volts and see what happens. It looks like a solenoid of some-sort.

Does the gold colored piece pull out? It almost looks like something like a breakaway emergency contact

I'll look at it closer tonight and put 12 volts to it. I don't think the contact pulls out. There is a hole where the plastic part extends out.

Don't put 12V into it. If it's a normally closed switch, you'll burn the contacts. Check the wires with a continuity tester or an ohmmeter. If it clicks on/off it's a latching electrical switch. If it turns on or off when you pull the tang, it's a momentary electrical switch.

I've seen tailgate and gas door actuators that look similar.

Can you show us a pic of the electrical connector? Is there any part number or something on it??

look for a part# on it then google it.

I'm guessing that it got mixed up in the packaging with the lift kit and could be some sensor for equipment in the warehouse. There are no part #'s on it or I would have done that first. A couple more pics.

Is that some kind of limit switch? Inserting a rod into the hole in the frame will move the gold arm sideways making or breaking an electrical contact?

Did you check the lift companies website? Have you tried emailing them?
