They look like Tee handles for hex bits, but seem kind of impractical without an extension or long bit. What size is the hex opening?

Sorry for the crappy pictures. These are 3/8 and came with some extensions and sockets. One has B.A.T.co and one has B.M.S co. The B.M.S. one has a 3/8 male hex with a lock ball and a 5/8 socket on the other end. The B.A.T. co one has a 3/8 socket on one end ( the BMS fits into it and an odd socket on the other. It also has another 3/8 hex on the end of the long side of the handle. I'll get better pictures. I tried to get it out fast because there is a full set with a ratchet and sockets at this sale. They want an astronomical amount for it. If its something desirable I'll go back Saturday and see if they are more resonable.

This Chiltons link lists a BAT Co in Philly. Made a combined a socket and Spark Plug tool called Panther. No pic, yet

they are also listed in four.cycle’s list, in this post.

I think I found out what these are. First I was mistaken. These are 7/16. Alloy artifacts has some pictures of The "King" socket set I appear to have several parts. This came with several other socket parts. A Herbrand breaker bar for instance. It looks like I go back tomorrow and see if the ether wore off yet.

This answers a bunch of questions! They want $125 for the other set. It has the "short" ratchet shown in one of the pictures. I do not remember seeing anything on the box. I'm not sure what its worth. Any ideas?

Between King Pressed Steel, Newton Pressed Steel, Service Engineering,
Boston Auto Tool Co, and Boston Machine Screw Co, there are a few officers, a few addresses, and the shape and construction of the unique sockets and some of the handles in common. I gave up trying to untangle the business relationships and timeline it more precisely, which was good enough at the time for my interest in identifying them, with Todd's help, as a heretofore unrecognized 1920s era geographical and design "grouping". AA still hasn't made all the connections, but is at least now in their King section connecting Newton and King, without giving me or GJ any credit.

If you purchase the B.A.T.Co and B.M.S.Co pieces/partial set, it would be a significant contribution, elidas.

Nice find.

I did pick up the B.M.S. co set today for $50. I should have noticed the similarity between the Service sockets and the BMS socket. My original purchase included four different sockets so I wasn't sure what went with what. The B.A.T co handle is a smaller diameter (about 1/8 inch) than the B.M.S handle and has a male hex drive on one end. It looks like there may have been at least 3 different sets originally. There was a locked NFS tool box at the sale. There are also some redundant pieces in my new set. This sale had some very good stuff including a barn fresh 31 Plymouth in amazing shape and a very early (1870's) Chadborn and Coldwell mower that I added to my mower collection. I picked up an ignition set also. I haven't determined the brand yet. Mike

I just bought the set into the house and examined it. These are 5/8 drive! The ones that I originally posted are 7/16.
