what is the best backprobe tip?
I used to use t-pins, I got westward backprobe tips but they are weak.
Who makes the best ones Snap on? Matco? Fluke? Pomona?

I use t-pins, cheap, and I don't worry about loosing them.

4" long Solid D -String for a Guitar rounded with a jewelers file soldered into alligator clips meant for your test leads. Wopping cost of normally 5 bucks.

Rounded edge doesn't mess up seals in the terminals, it is ridged enough to go the length but, flexible enough it won't pierce the seal. You can also use the alligator clips to run test overlays and clip them together to make a by pass for testing.

Back probing sometimes works for me. But often the connectors have backshells or shrink wrap to the connector. I am often forced to use a breakout connector to monitor in use. If doing a continuity check I use the corresponding mating pin to that connector.

I know I mentioned breakout connectors some mating connectors are just not available. My solution has been to take corresponding mating pins or contact crimp a wire lead place them on connector. then use a modeling plastic to form needed housing. This way I create a mating testing connector. Which is used on my harness tester that will do 256 points of contact.

Cornwell used to have a really nice set of cables, clamps, and back probes in a nylon case which fit pretty much all meters for like $49.95. I bought mine around 2006 and it works awesome, I think it is rebranded Actron or Ferrett.
