Welcome to the garage journal.

Do you have code height limitation or roof slope? What is your height for the first floor? Are you going to have a lift? Is the attic space going to be a mezzanine or separate floor? What are the spans? How are you planning on insulation? Have you read any reference material on the subject? What is your skill level?

I know people do it, but when I built my shop a number of years ago, two of the contractors I worked with in the planning stages said they wouldn't do a pole barn with attic trusses or storage trusses and I was only looking at 12' ceilings. Something about lack of wall stability with pole construction.

I ended up with stick framing and decided I couldn't afford attic trusses so I downgraded to storage trusses. Stick framing ended up being about the same cost.

Attic trusses are typically 12/12 pitch, so that's a pretty tall building with 16' walls.

It gets tall quick.. A lot will depend on your area codes for roof loading. I too went stick built after talking to the engineers that were working on the house we were building at the same time as the barn...
