I have a half dozen or so knipex circlip pliers and was going to order some more to make a more complete set. I googled knipex circlip plier set and mostly what comes up is ones with a screw holding the two halves together, like these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005EXNT38/?tag=atomicindus08-20. They looked forged? The ones I have look more machined, like these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ID7DEBO/?tag=atomicindus08-20. I went on knipex website and under circlip pliers I only saw the "machined" style. What exactly is the difference in them and is one style better then the other?

Edit: Came here to ask first when I didn't find answer on google but after some deeper googling I found this video which explains the difference,
. But is one style better then the other? Video didn't really specify which style was better.

Functionally they are the same. The machined ones are usually cheaper and are all most people would need. The forged ones with the pivot screw have hardened piano wire tips that are inserted into the forged steel bodies. That tip design can handle more use without the tips showing meaningful wear. I own both styles in various sizes, and since I don't use them constantly (for tip wear to be much of an issue) I actually prefer the machined style pliers. They are a little bit narrower overall near the tips so they get into tight areas a little easier.

Another thing I like about the machined style pliers is that the main part of the plier arms (from the hinge joint out to the tips) is tapered and round, so any internal ring plier can be used like a pair of round nose pliers for jobs like bending small wires without nicking them.

The differences between Knipex snap ring pliers is minor. The similarity between Knipex snap ring pliers is that they are awesome.
