Looking to find the largest shallow chrome (not an industrial finish, impact) socket as a bday gift for a family member who owns his own mechanic shop.
Was thinking he could put this jumbo socket on his desk and use this to put in loose items, business cards, pens, etc.

I stumbled across this Snap-On video:

How Snap-on makes Large Sockets

It showed the process of making a huge 5 3/8" chrome socket. And I thought, this is what I'm looking for. It's going to be pricey, and a lot of family/friends are sharing in the cost, so this would work.

I paused the video to capture the item number, IM1725. Unfortunately, that item shows up as a 5 3/8" impact (industrial finish) socket. The largest size chrome socket Snap-on makes now is a 3/4" drive, 2 3/8" - and would not be large enough for the stated purpose above.

Thus, I looked around and the largest chrome socket I could find was from Wright tools, at 1" drive, and 3 1/2".

Anyone know of a larger chrome socket available? 5" or greater would be ideal. Drive size does not matter. And not a plastic toy :)

You could buy that socket and get it chromed or go to a machine shop and have one quoted.

They're simple to make, I've made some over the years in my shop for a customer who builds very some uncommon construction equipment. Standard sizes, but they have some accessibility issues, so there's a tool package that goes with the machine.

Maybe McMaster-Carr. A couple of reasonably priced US options.

If you go with impact-rated you can get even bigger.

Grey Pneumatic shows up to 8", but not chrome. I'd second the suggestion to buy one and chrome it as anything that size is made to be driven with an impact anyway. Get a fire extinguisher ready for your wallet though. It's going to be en fuego on this one...

Try to contact some surplus outfit like Epsteins to see if they have some thing. They may just have something that came in a bulk purchase.

Thanks for the tip, I checked out their chrome sockets and they max out at around 3 1/2" size. Noticed this is about the max size for chrome sockets.

Imperial-Newton / Imperial-Newton Corp., Centennial, CO / https://www.imperial-newton.com/ / industrial only - 1½" minimum size on sockets and wrenches /

here ya go:

12-3/4"450-12750-06S-B4-1/2" drive, impact socket, 12-3/4" AF, 6-point, standard length, black finish
Awesome site. Thanks for that. However, it looks to be all impact, black finish sockets. But they are huge! I may have to find a 5" impact socket and get it chrome plated as suggested from the posts above.

Ko-ken makes a 100mm chrome socket, which is slightly larger than the Wright 3-1/2" you found:

If you are looking to avoid impact due to rust, and not set on chrome, Ampco makes a nonsparking 4-1/8" socket:

I wasn't able to find anything larger, but now I'm curious!

I have a 1-1/2" on a 1/2" drive ! Never used it. Probably never will.
I actually bought one of those from Grey Pnuematic for the sole purpose of changing trailer balls on recievers. Personally I've always had more than one receiver handy, but some of the shops I've worked at would always get that guy who walked in and said "I don't have a wrench for this, can you get it off?" Instead of being like my coworkers and using the biggest crescent and pipe wrench, then fight with it for a half hour, I would chuck it in the vise, hit it with some heat and zip em right off with my impact...didn't take long before everybody wanted to borrow my socket all the time! Haha
