What is this heating tip/torch?

Picked up a set of oxy/acetylene tanks a few months ago from a guy. He also has this for sale, but he doesn't know what it is or what it is for, and neither do I. The only reason I picked the tanks up was to heat up rusted bolts, nuts, and bearing races, other than that, I have no experience with a torch set.

Is this a wood burner? Looks like it only has one line/regulator to it.

It's a large propane torch kinda like the ones you use to solder copper pipe. They make different tips for them. The torch uses the 20lb. tanks like you use on a gas grill.

That tank is a "b" size acetylene tank. Medium size tank for the turbo type torches that use just a fuel tank to the torch no oxygen tank needed. Used by a lot of plumbers and A/C repairmen.. The "B" tank originally was "bus" size tank for the gas headlights on early 1900's buses. The "mc" smaller tank was for motor cycles of the same period. Those size designations kept on even if the original use is long gone.

Those are handy tanks to have. I've been trying to find one but all the ones I run into either look like they were salvaged from a shipwreck or are priced higher than a new tank.

Would that B tank be worth $35? I didn't buy it because I didn't recognize the valve on it, but I still have the option to buy.

If airgas will exchange that style tank, certification doesn't matter, they don't charge me to test if it is out of date.

On a side note bought the 122cu ft acetylene, ~100cu ft o2 tank, and ~100cu ft argon tank for $90, all full, only the acetylene was out of date.

Just spoke with him. Going to get the B tank and a o2 tank about the same size, for $30! Sad to say, he doesn't have a torch or regulators, ill be on the look out for those.
