No clue but here's another one

My first impression was the tail end looked somewhat like the eye of a sewing needle there are a few comments on attached link suggesting possibly for net making or a large fid for splicing rope but the only fids I'm familiar with are pointed and hollow in back. It's pretty cool whatever it is.

Yes that seems to be an exact copy.
If it helps any, I live nowhere near the sea / ocean, but I do live in an agricultural area.

Harpoons I have seen have a socket for a pole to drive them in.

Does the back end look like it's ever been hammered on, @ConductorChris?

The profile of the "eye" does indeed look sorta like a sewing needle, as observed by @cgrutt. What does the very center look like, where a rope would bend over the eye? Is it rounded and smooth there, too, or does it come to a sharp-ish edge?

I looks steel, or at least ferromagnetic. Is that the case? Aluminum would change a lot of thinking...

The eye in the handle is peculiar. It's such a long slot, not just a hole. There is a bevel on the lower end on one side of the eye like a rope would slide along there. I'm thinking fid for fishing nets but that's a guess.

I'm Thinking You May be Right ! So, I think it is time to go Fishing again, this time in the Net Repair Field.

LZ

PS: Update, Well that did Not Take Long, If it is/was a fishing net repair needle, why the bulbus head, and made from prone to rust in salt water steel/cast iron>? NOT SO SURE NOW !

Still on my Watch for List,

LZ
