What is this Kennedy box/roller worth?

This is an unusual setup compared to what I normally see around. Used in good condition. Lock key is missing, but the unit is unlocked.

Any idea on value?

That is a nice box in very good condition. Since I don't see anything that nice around here I'd pay $400-$500 for it.

I believe that is called a vera cart. Kennedy seems to have the lowest resale value % of new compared to any other box. Depending on dimensions and if that is BB or friction I would probably top out at $300-$450 if everything works as it should, no rust and relatively clean.

I have a feeling that center wheel is going be a real annoyance for a standard box. I can see tripping over that in the home setting. It was designed to be rolled around a factory multiple times a day.

Can it be taken off?

Anything can be taken apart :D I am just not sure what all would be left or if you would have to do some cutting to get the axle off. I usually stand pretty close to my box and bench so I can just see myself catching a toe on that large center wheel. YMMV, I am pretty clumsy though. However I am sure that large wheel is really nice for smooth rolling, which is what they were designed for.

WOW, :scared:

Do you plan to keep it or sell it? Can you post some better pics of it? They are not too common. Seems like you have really been picking up the cheap boxes lately.

Not to often to you see a box with a long drawer on the bottom. I think Mac or Matco made one back in the day.

I will post pics, but not likely until tomorrow. I have to head out and will not be back till late. I am thinking I will sell this. I am trying to raise some tuition money for my kids school next year.

Tip for that box:

Be extremely careful removing the drawers/slides (to clean and lube), if it's an older one the bearings are all separate, not encapsulated and will all fall out all over the place, real pain in the ***, otherwise an excellent box.

Mickey O, Thank you for the warning... I need to look further, but I do believe this is the older style.

Think I'd nix the big wheels, and if needed, add casters/fixed to the center that matched the outer ones.

And, though it's been said a time or two already......YOU ****!

Good score.

I will apologize in advance,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,****!!!

What an astounding deal for a box that appears to be in excellent shape!!

You did quite well and are awarded suckage and then some!!

Bottom drawer is double hung.

That should sell for a nice profit if you can find someone who knows Kennedy's quality.

Definitely use those pics in your ad, always a money shot with the drawers opened like a pyramid.

If that was in my shop, I would think $800 and it would sell. Good luck.

That is a really nice box, especially for $125, too bad you can't actually use it or are willing to pass a good deal along.

You got a great deal on a pretty nice box. I personally don't like that drawer layout. Wish the long drawer was on the top.

Thank you... That's my asking price.

Dang, a 640% mark up, don't you think that is a bit steep considering what you have into it? :scared:

Ok, obviously off topic, but there is nothing wrong with making a profit on something. I am not using any dishonest or immoral practice whatsoever. I am selling some tool boxes to pay for my daughters school. Also, I am not trying to sell it here either. (sorry if it seems that way). I do not want to ship 350lbs unless I have to. I do not have the wealth or luxury to "pass the deal along". I wish I could and maybe I'll be able to do that someday AFTER my daughters school is paid for. Thanks ;)

Since the box is being flipped, I've simply lost interest in this thread. Nice box and one day I'll own one and enjoy the heck out of it.

I don't think it's unreasonable for the OP to ask that. He got it for a steal, and will make a profit on it. I would do the same thing. Besides, even at 800, it's still a good deal.

X2, I don't have an issue with someone buying something and reselling it, especially if they put some work into fixing said item. However a price increase to $800 from $120 just seems absurd to me. Had you listed at ~$350-500 tops, that would be one thing, but $800 is just way too much IMHO :scared:

I don't care, nor should any one else that you have to pay for your daughters school. I hate when people complain or use their choices to try and justify their actions, especially when money is involved.

Just FYI for everyone reading this. There is no moral right or wrong. You can do whatever you want. At the end of the day the only person you have to really report to is yourself. I was simply voicing my opinion.

I disagree on the good deal part. Would you honestly pay $800 for that box?

I guess what bothers me is the fact that some guy who could really use and enjoy that box will now have to pay $850 for it. I know everyone had the same chance as the OP to get it, but it still kind of *****.

EXACTLY, same feelings over here. It just boils down to people are greedy and only care about themselves. I personally feel that box is not worth or maybe top dollar at $800. Even at $300 it would be a good deal IMHO. Honestly for the money you could get 2 HF boxes and then some.

You guys are forgetting leg work, he has to put in. He has to re key it and market it. To top it all off a sale isn't a sure thing, because as discussed earlier in the thread. Kennedy don't always have the best resale value. On a side note, don't blame him, blame the overpriced schools for making him resort to having to do this to give his daughter a education.

I don't blame him, he can do as he likes but I don't have to like it. ;)

How about this logic... because of me not keeping it for myself, someone can now get this for $800 which is THE BEST price you can find one for right now. If I keep it, I guess that poor soul would HAVE to pay $2100 and buy one new?

FYI the cl ad I bought this from was posted 24 hours before I called, so it's not like I won the race either.

Hey.. but I can understand why you disagree and if course see it differently... seriously(no sarcasm), I do appreciate the feedback.

Hey... no hard feelings, but charging a fair market price is not greed. I have sold stuff plenty of times in the past for less than I had paid or had invested, because that's what the market would bear at the time... should I then have called the buyer greedy because he would not pay me more than what it was worth?

Perhaps I reveal too much, but we'll just have to disagree on this I guess.

Hey... no hard feelings, but charging a fair market price is not greed.

Depends on how you determine fair market price. I personally find it greedy that you bought something you didn't need, just to raise the items price without changing it's condition drastically. What if someone really needed that and wanted to use it. Maybe they needed it to make their living. They could have afforded $120 or even $200, but not $800. This is what I find to be the greedy part. You potentially took it away from some else that needed it.

This mentality is just so prevalent in our society today it is just sad.

So, hypothetically speaking, what if someone called and offered you $450, would you sell it for that?

Again, arguing morals is like arguing politics, everyone has their own opinion and value that is more than likely not going to change.

If that is the best offer I receive, I would happily sell it at that price!

If I saw that box here for 800 I would definitely call the guy to talk atleast. Not many Kennedy's around, and really 800 gets you a used Beach in this market.

And I don't think OP is in the wrong here. He got a good deal, and is now going to capitalize on it to help his family. Do you think all those guys in the classifieds selling new SO items paid list price? I highly doubt it.

Really? Someone NEEDS to buy a $2100 toolbox for $120 to make ends meet? Oh yeah.... that's me!. To make a "living"... by reselling it. My point is this... who's to say someone else "needs" to profit from the deal more than me (by either owning or selling). I have 4 kids and my wife stays home. I work my tail off and need every break I can get. I have resorted to cl flipping to pay for something I consider essential. Sorry... no greed guilt here.

The "profit" is not made when I sell it. The profit was made when I bought it for much less than it was worth. If the box is worth $800 and since $120 was the purchase price, the profit is $680. If the poor mechanic in need of a toolbox bought it first, he would still benefit the same way financially. He still made $680! He just has his profit in the form of a toolbox he could not otherwise afford without the "profits" he gained when he made the undervalued purchase.
