Hello all. My laptop would not get a wifi signal unless I stood right next to the router.

Opened it up and the wires from lose from the connectors that connect it to the wifi card.

What are the connectors called? I have searched for an hour on google and cannot come up with anything?

let me know if you can't find any, I'm sure I've got a few of those I can cut off from my box of scrap laptops...

If the wires are loose from the connectors themselves, you will need a new antenna for the laptop.

If the "connectors" feel loose between each other, that is somewhat normal... some rotate rather freely.

What he said.

If it works when connected, but the connector falls off when the laptop is bumped too hard, you can put a dab of low-temp hot-melt glue on it to keep it in place.

Electrical tape and/or maybe a small piece of foam so that the back cover holds it in place.

Kapton tape, or hot glue, those are the best options. Kapton is expensive, hot glue is cheap.

Are you guys all looking at a different picture than I am ???? The connectors in the original post are simple stab on connectors, not antenna connectors. They can typically be tightened up by squeezing them with a small pair of needle nose pliers.

Those are connections to the antenna, thus, antenna... connectors. The word "antenna" does not mean they have to screw on.

There is typically no need to squeeze them... if they have not fallen off it is fine they are "loose", the center pin is what actually makes the RF connection, the outside part that holds it together is the ground/shielding and it's probably fine.

Ok, my bad..... I was looking at it wrong. It looked like your typical stab on connector like on a battery. Now I see that it actually pushes down onto the board.

yeah that's the wifi card, the 2 antennas for transmit/receive I believe. when I pull those usually the antennas are threaded through around the back and I just toss them in the gold pin jar, but they can still be replaced if you can't get them to stay on. I have seen them corrode pretty bad when you spill coffee on the keyboard...
