Hello -
I've got an old 20" Crescent Heavy bandsaw. I've got it wired up with a VFD and it's running. I'm still figuring out tuning the bandsaw, blade tension etc.

But, I've got a few of this grease or oil ports - see pic. I think this bandsaw is from the 40's. I've never seen anything like these. What tool do I need to oil and/or grease the bearings? Are these considered zercher ports? Sorry for my lack of knowledge. I haven't done anything with them - the wheels turn easily, and I don't feel any grinding etc.

Thanks.

No image shown, most common are Zerk fitting, but there are also Button fittings and flush fittings to name a few.

There are other fittings, little cup-like thingies, common on old machinery, that drip oil onto the works as part of a loss-based lubrication system.

Could be grease or oil. Figure out what the manufacturer recommended. A lot of guys mistakenly pump grease in b/c 'it looks like a grease zerk'. They used them for oil too.

Zerks were commonly used with 600W oil, which is a heavy oil originally used to lubricate steam-driven equipment/cylinders, and is now most commonly used to lubricate the heads of corn harvesters. Known in modern times as "Corn-Head Grease."

Is there a type/brand of oil or grease I should use? I don't want to get the wrong stuff gummed up in there if possible.
something like this? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00460DVFQ/?tag=atomicindus08-20
Without knowing the application ( what it's greasing / oiling ) it's difficult (if not impossible) to recommend any specific lube... What worked awesome for the 48" rocker pins on the bridge I worked on wouldn't work for your automotive bearings, and fail on anything that works in a wet environment...
