What is this silver piece on cable clamp pilers?

Wanted to pick up a set of cable actuated clamp pliers. It came with a silver piece that has a small hole in it and is threaded.

I looked on Sears and couldn't find any information on it. Looks like a cable would go through it but both ends are crimped on the tool...

What is this for?

It's a repair piece for when the crimped end of the cable in your 4th pic is eventually wears out and fails. That's where all the stress is.

Awesome! Glad I didn't throw it out then. Thank you :)

Safe to assume that when the part breaks I simply put the cable in the hole and then screw the other part in as far as it will go. Kinda like a setscrew does but in this case it's against the cable?

Yeah you got it. Just gather up the cable strands and feed them through the little hole then apply set screw to trap cable.
