What is this socket for?

I got this with a bunch of sockets and I don't know what it is for. It is 1/2" drive with about a 3/8" smooth bore and 180 degree opposing slots, 1/8" wide and 5/16" deep.

Could be for the petcock on radiators. The old ones with just a 1/8" pin through them to grip and open the petcock.

That makes good sense. The same thing is on the drain valve for some air compressors. You da man!

On some power window regulators there is a fairly heavy, flat wound clock spring that has to be unhooked when you replace the electric motor. I have a 3/8" dr. Schley slotted socket that is designed for opening radiator petcocks but I also use it for the unloading and unhooking this clock spring. You might be able to use your socket for this too, not that you'd have to do this very often.

Thanks guys, I think I'll go with Miltons answer. I checked and it does fit petcocks nicely.

That was my first thought, as I have a couple shop made ones, but in 1/4 drive. 1/2" drive for a radiator petcock is like killing flies with a sledge hammer.
