Okay clearly, this is an OTC 7310 Pitman Arm Puller. Works well on tie rod ends and small ball joints.

What is the little metal piece on the end of the chain for ?

BTW, it looks qite a bit different than the picture they have on the web site.

Some separators come with a tether so if the stud pops the tool will not drop.

On a side note, always leave the nut on, and try to stick a punch into the cotter pin hole so the stud won't crush under pressure.

It's an adapter to use when things don't quite line up and you don't want to use the point. The chain helps keep the adapter with the tool so you won't lose it.
