I think we have a winner here! Now that you mention it, I do recall that valve hard seat grinders came in boxes like this.

Now the question is: What manufacturer of valve seat grinders used red boxes?

off the top of my head,
i'd say SO

So did Van Dorn and Black & Decker (before Black & Decker gave up making real tools and switched to making irons, toasters and coffee makers).

But that box doesn't appear to be from SO, VD, or B&D, although I agree it's a valve seat grinder kit box.

the old BD valve seat grinder i used to use was in a grey box......

How old? Our early '60s-vintage B&D valve seat grinder was in a red box, matching the red (with a hint of orange) of the older-yet B&D valve grinder and cabinet. Our Kwik-Way was in a gray box.

i'd have to estimate that seat grinder and valve grinder was late 40's /early 50's.

we averaged a valve job a week for the 8 or so years i worked in the rebuild room.
we bought out a metric sh*t ton NOS B&D seat stones from an old machine shop in town to keep us supplied.
