My Father in law stopped by the other day to give me an old ****** block that he never used and never will. He also gave me this thing. He has no idea what it is and Neither do I. The 'funnels' are like a masonite material.
Just throwing out to the group to see if anyone can ID it.
Thanks

Interesting.... I thought a water level was longer. I didn't unroll to see just how long the hose is. Wonder why one side has the black sleeve over it? I'll mess with it now that you have me curious.
I'm sure it would work as a level - maybe for around corners or .....?
Thanks for the replies

Long Beach CA, the sewer by the sea.
I think it is something that someone wanted it to be. It could be used to listen to bearings in a motor, etc. Water level is another. Just used one the other day made from 2 clear ends that screw onto a common hose. But it doesn't need 2 funnels.

Here's a close-up of the cones. I was wrong on the Masonite. It appears to be some cheap fiber board - like an egg carton is made from. I don't think it would hold up to much water without coming unglued. The whole she-bang is 12' 6" and the hose is 1/2" ID. The black part appears to be a 'handle' - it does not slide on the clear tube and is stiff.
Funny part is.... Why do I even CARE what the hell this is? But I guess a lot of you are just like me when it comes to 'tools' - especially strange ones that you get for free.

Wow! Kid's toy, Thread spools, *** toy (?),.... I had no idea this would 'stir the pot' like it has. I'll share this with my F-I-L. But, Like I said, He gave it to Me coz he didn't know what it was. (he was essentially trowing it in the trash - without using HIS can). It was obviously never used.
Keep the guesses coming? No label or ID of any kind on it. So, even if somebody does know exactly what the heck it really is, well.....

Looks like garbage. Cones do look like thread spools as mentioned. Odds are it is something someone made for what ever like a kid's half *** science project.

That's something I like to do.......Take odd bits of things and put them together.....then give them to someone, telling them it's some kind of tool I found, but don't know what it is!

So I looked at the ETSY link - They are definitely Thread spools. It appears that 'someone' may have had a few too many or smoked some Whacky Weed and fabbed this 'tool' for whatever reason seemed right at the time.
I'm just gonna dispose of properly and go back to the garage....

bczygan - If your avitar is really a pic of YOU, Then I have one of your
"some kind of tool I found, but don't know what it is".... I can mail it back to you if you need it.

My grandmother had plenty of those empty thread spools that we used to play with as kids back in the 1970s - I had completely forgotten about them until seeing this thread (oof, unintentional pun).

I vote for a home-made mechanic's stethoscope. Probably made by somebody who lived through the great depression.
