What is this Tool?

I bought a bunch of stuff at an auction recently. I paid bottom dollar for lots of bulk items that came in bins: reamers, end mills, collets, lathe bits, large diameter drills, etc. There were two items that I had never seen before. Anyone know what this tool is and what it's for?

I've got two of them. One who's squares are about 1/2" and the other's are about .590". My guess is rotary broaches. The shafts look like might've been cut off and faced flat at some point, but the other ends were put back into their wax shells for secure storage, so I'm perplexed...

Hmmm... it shows up on my screen. I posted the photo the same way that I posted other successful photos just a few minutes earlier. Is it still not showing up. Maybe it's some odd permissions problem?

There's no image shown in the OP for me either. It looks like a hotlink to googleusercontent is what was posted. I'm guessing since the OP has the cookie from it they can see the image that one else without a cookie from the same site would be able to.

It's never a good idea to hotlink an image from any site. It often doesn't work and many if not most sites see it as stealing their bandwidth.

What is Hotlinking?
https://www.google.com/search?q=hotlink+image+stealing+bandwidth

Some sites have automated scripts that will even substitute images that are hotlinked elsewhere from their site. Sometimes the substituted image will say 'no hotlinking' or some such, but other times to a **** image meant to get the person who posted it banned from wherever they posted it. Unfortunately I've seen that happen many times and people got banned and probably never even knew why.

That's why to be safe you should always save an image to your computer and then upload it either to an image site (imgur doesn't work with GJ) or here at GJ in the 'Post Reply' (as opposed to the 'Quick Reply') you can upload images as an attachment.

Anywho. not sure how kwoswalt99 got it but if that's it I have no idea what it is. lol

Here's what I see in Firefox:

If that's it, then my guess is that it's a flat head screw.

Like I said. It's never a good idea to hotlink an image. Upload it to an image host and link to that - that's what they're for - or upload it here to GJ as an attachment.

What's strange is the first time I clicked this thread, I could see the pic. Now I see the flat head screw, weird.

I figured it out, you have to be signed in to gmail to see it.

I'm always 24/7 signed into gmail and I still just see a flat head screw.

The image is hotlinked to googleusercontent.com, which is associated with certain google content delivery services so only those who have a cookie from there for some reason will be able to see the hotlinked image.

wait it cant be a good screw driver as its round instead of having a triagle or other polygon shape, so it must be some sort of sign

Sorry about the photo posting problems. I was hoping that the hotlinking method would work, but you're all right, it's not good practice. Back to the issue at hand... What is this tool? (I uploaded it as a attachment this time.)

I thought that it might be some sort of broaching cutter, but I've never seen one with only three "teeth". My co-worker thinks it is some sort of rotary broach. The **** of the tool seems to have been cut off, so it might've had an eccentric on it? No way to know now.

The tool was wrapped in its protective wax sleeve, so somebody thought it was important.
