Got bunch of random "tools" from my father in law, and this was in the bag. I am not sure what it is and what its used for. I am sure someone here knows what it is. Thanks in advance.

Larry got it right; it's a chain breaker.

Okay Leadsled, you got me. I think I belong in the 'stupid things people say' thread now...

Grind the head of the pin off before use. That one appears to be a well-made one. Pins will sometimes break, if you use it incorrectly, or if you don't grind-off the 'mushroomed' end of the pin.

Take it to a good motorcycle dealer and you can probably find a pin for it. Motion Pro is one motorcycle tool brand which sells replacements, and Pit Posse is another. If you have a Cycle Gear franchise, by you, they may have parts too. https://www.cyclegear.com/accessories/stockton-chain-breaker-and-rivet-tool-kit

Pin in the tool presses out the pin connecting the two side plates of the chain. Kinda hard to tell from the photo's, but your tool might be missing it's pin.

Looks a lot like a Patton Tool breaker. They changed their design around 2013. the 50 indicates that it can break up to #50 chain.
