The door key is usually located in a small box high up on the wall in the lobby. It opens the front panel, to provide access to the lever mechanism inside, to open manually the inner door to the passenger compartment.

The black disc is a travel limiter, you insert the key until the black disc is flush with the door surface, and then you turn it until the door sheetmetal releases, and it slides open.

Yup, that’s an elevator door key that works on a lot of different brands of elevators. It allows access to the elevator cab in case of an emergency. Be extremely careful (actually I recommend not using it at all) as you can easily open a door into an empty hoistway if the elevator car is above or below your level. You don’t want to fall in there. Many experienced elevator mechanics have fallen down hoistways.
