What is this vise used for.

A guy on another forum posted these pics wanting to know if this vise was for something specific or is it just a universial vise for irregular shapped parts.

The second picture should make it quite obvious to anyone who has been around winged insects for very long.
Typically used for butterfly dentistry although the movable jaws will secure a variety of our winged friends. It is well known that Butterflies can often be rather anxious during a simple teethcleaning and usually flap around a bit (I could tell some stories....).
It's a long lost service nowadays as there was no money in it. Deadbeat Butterflies were common. The business was always running on a wing and a prayer.....................I don't miss it.
