What is this wire?

Hi everyone,

My brother recently bought a house and a spool of this wire was left in the basement. I am trying to decide if it is worth keeping for future projects...but I am having trouble just identifying it.

There is no marking in the insulation. Solid single conductor aluminum. The conductor is .200in, OD insulation is about .300in.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

The safe thing to do is toss it. Without any markings, you have no way of knowing what it is able to do safely. Use it on low voltage gate openers, cattle fence, sidewalk lights, but not for anything that is line voltage. That's what I would do and I never throw anything out!

Thanks guys. I'll probably keep it around for a little bit. Maybe use it as bailing wire for something....then toss it in the scrap pile.

I've never gone thru the hassle of stripping wire. Maybe for this it would be worth it, since it is a decent amount. .44/lb right now.
