It was in a vintage Craftsman toolbox I bought at an estate sale recently, and I have no idea what it is.

Check the breaker bar (if it's in the set). If it has a hole in the handle, then that bar is to make the breaker bar into a t-handle driver.

I don't think those usually have spring detentes on the ends though. My vote is on a non notched handle for a sliding T bar head.

If it's from a sliding T-bar, it's a really early version.

Here's a 1956 Snap-On 1/2" T-Bar for reference. If you look closely, the sliding bar part has a detent for a ball rather than a spring-loaded ball, and only on one side.

That's also a really early Snap-On logo... Had already evolved to this on my '56 tools.

Thanks guys. Since I don't have any other parts to the set I'm just going to use it for the handle to a Craftsman tap wrench, that is missing the handle. Well, as long as a tear in the fabric of time and space isn't created when the two brands come together:bounce:.
