What is this?

I got this with some other stuff at an auction and was wondering what it is and how to use it?
I suspect it is for cabinetry but.....

I think you are right in that it's for making cabinets. I believe it facilitates drilling holes for those little peg cabinet shelf holder thingies (yes Im not a cabinet maker)

Do you have any idea what Im talking about or is my ridiculous description just that, i.e ridiculous?

If the top line is spaces one inch apart then the next line down is spaced 1 1/16th" apart and each line down increases the spacing proportionately. It would be handy for laying out centres based on these small dimensions but not sure exactly what the intended use was.

I have those and they are not laid out equally like that. Too close of a layout for shelving.

That is what I was thinking. Does it have a proper name?

My guess was Cribbage board also. Why would you need that many holes for cabinet hardware layout ? Seems like you would only need two of each spacing for that.

Last time I saw something like that was when we did costumes for a renaissance fair... you put pegs in the appropriate holes for the size of the ruffle on the neck, and weave the fabric through it and sew it all together. Sew the neckband on the end, and viola - you're now a fashionable 1500's noble or something. (They're called "ruff boards" by those who use them...)

Ours was made of wood, so that probably has a more legit use than that... then again, some of those Renfiar/SCA types can go pretty overboard.

Agreed but having all those holes doesn't mean you have to use all of them. However it would allow options given different sizing and spacing.
