Very popular Chinese copy of a rare American vise. If it doesn't have the maker's name cast into it, it's a Chinese copy. The manufacturers of this vise are too numerous to name ...

It looks almost like the one i picked up and sold. Mine had a plate on it saying it was a swordfish brand made in china.

Looks like this vise I picked up at a tool sale several years ago.

I have a couple of those Chinese units and use the hell out of them. They have worked well for me for what I do with them.
If they don't want much for it then it is worth getting.
If you really want a USA made vise, I think I'm going to sell one of my bullit vises

That style has a tendency to let go of the work piece, like drilling a piece of steel or hammering something. At best it's annoying. At worst it's dangerous.

That one was repainted. Hf currently sells the crappiest version of that vise I have ever seen. Very handy but respect its limitations. I mainly use mine for painting real vise parts if I can't hang them.

I've seen several broken ones. That style of vise will never replace a good USA Wilton or similar. IMHO They don't grip as well, period.

Only exception for that kind of import vise is the Yost 750DLI made with 60,000 PSI ductile iron. Only Chinese vise I would buy.

Generally this is a perfect vise to use for household stuff.
I've seen 30 or so used ones, never seen a broken one.
Excellent design
Five times as useful as a wilton swivel, ten times as useful as a wilton without a swivel.

I have one outside on a welding table. I don't care what happens to it. If you back off the hand screw the jaws will become free to rotate. Very difficult to hold a long piece off center with one hand and clamp it with the other. I've been thinking about drilling and tapping the barrel for a set screw.

The opposite jaws are different and hold pipe both ways.

I'm sure you already know this but it should have two Phillips screws in back to lock it upright and upside down...at least.

I kept mine outside for the same exact reason.

Most or maybe all (?) of the new ones have that lock you speak of. It is indeed a good addition. Wonder what it would be like to drill and tap that material?

No, I didn't know this and had to go look. Mine may be recessed Allens but they are there. Thank you. I feel kinda stupid but I'm sure that vise will get more use now. ;):D

BTW, this is why I revisit all my posts. You never know when a good tidbit is left to discover. :)
