what is this?

Just purchased two NOS Craftsman Professional wire cutters. One standard, the other bent handle. The standard handle has a spring steel thing of some sort on the handle....the bent handle doesn't. I have no idea what its for.....

With the tool completely open, can you position the bar on the other handle?

yep, and now I see what it's for.......... it helps keep the cutter open.... duh...

How simple and how I over looked....
