Not sure if it is part of something or a tool but I feel like it is supposed to attach to something. Found it in my fathers tool box, he was a machinist if that helps.

I know the minute I toss it I'll be like, oh that's what it is for!

Unthreaded pipe bushing. Say you want to put your DWH or boilers pop off valve into a cast iron drain, but is still easy to remove/replace the heater so you don’t need the cost/complexity of a union.

I have a set of pipe dies that have those bushing in each size as the dies. They serve as a guide bushing to start the tread straight on the pipe. This set of dies have two piece dies to fit the die stock, not single piece dies or 4 piece dies like Ridgid die heads. Each die has a mark to set the correct thread in the die stock.

bingo (I think).

I've seen the same thing on Reed dies.
