So, I know I used to know what this is, and that I ought to, but old timer's is setting in, LOL. Any idea what this is as I am going through a small mess in part of my garage and I cannot for the life of me figure out what it's for. I know it's one of those things I didn't get rid of because I probably will need it at some point but I'm coming up zeros on this one. Thanks.

No. It's a tool of some kind. For alignment on something, and drilling, just can't remember what. But thanks for the time to chime in though.

Damn. Because I know I figured it out once before on a google search, few years back, but now, that really doesn't work as well as it used to. AI, ahem, seems to not be improving things. Just sayin'.

Does the hole in the center pass all the way thru? If so, maybe a drill or alignment guide.

Yes, it passes all the way through and I'm halfway sure it IS some sort of alignment tool, but I cannot for the life of me remember WHAT it's supposed to be used to align. And, I could be wrong too. If I was sure, I wouldn't be asking, right? LOL.

But I'm pretty dang sure it's not any sort of screw cap, or cap, or lid, or anything like that. It's definitely a tool, of some kind.

Do you have a B&D Workmate? That looks an awful lot like one of the "dogs" for one.

The "wings" on the stem are to fit tightly in a hole for sure.

I'm sure I've seen that item, decades ago, and I'm struggling to recall its purpose. It appears to be a spanner for a 3-notch bezel nut or some such. I'll chew on it some more and see if the answer materializes from one of those dark, dusty corners of my mind.

I do have one. A workmate 425, but the dogs are nothing like this. They look like this. Nice try though, I was almost like yes, but then no. LOL.

Absolutely sure it came "with" something. Some kit or something, but again, I really think it's meant for alignment while drilling a specific "must be in this exact spot" type hole or something. But again, IDK for sure. This is going to drive me nutty. LOL.

Do you think it could be a base to a toy Gyroscope? Something like this:
No, it's definitely a tool, not a toy. I know I've used it before too, in the past. Just, old timer's has set in and I can't remember half the junk I used to know anymore. LOL.

And to be clear, I'm pretty dang certain there are at least ten or fifteen other tools around here that I won't be able to remember wth they are for either. Heh.
