What is with the performance on this site?

The pages on this site always seem to take about 10 seconds to load. It doesn't matter what time of day it is, or which computer I'm using. Whether it's my aging, DSL connected laptop at home, or my high performance T1 connected desktop at work, the page load time is always slow. :headscrat

I don't have that problem...... Possibly you have some cobwebs somewhere that is slowing it down? :lol_hitti

Just realized what it is...... they deliberately slow down new people so they can't post too much too fast............................

I seem to experience the same effect sometimes as well. Whois.net says that they're registered by GoDaddy, so it's not like the site is run out of someone's basement, meaning it might not be the servers.

I think I've narrowed it down a bit. It seems to be at it's worst when you open the page in a new window. Just clicking on links using the same browser window is not too bad, but opening a new one is pretty slow.

Godaddy is just the domain registrar. They aren't hosting the site.

Oh, okays, got it.

Hmm, maybe the site is hosted in someone's basement then.

Maybe it's only during times of peak activity, because I don't see lag all the time, just sometimes.

What is your browser. IE7 is bloated and noticeably slower than IE6 on most PCs, especially that anti phishing filter etc etc. Do you get the same performance with other browsers, ie Firefox? Also opening in a new tab takes more resources than just loading a new page in the current windows. Numerous tabs open also uses much memory.

On the Internet side, if you can browse this site then you can't do much more to increase your download speed. Perhaps dumping your temporary internet files and cookies if this site tends to check them when loading each page.

Just thoughts. :)

I run IE6 at home, and IE7 on my office machine. Same result in both.

It's just this site. All of the other sites I routinely visit load very quickly, so it's not the browser, cookies, etc.

We had an issue last week, but things should be getting better now...

We are hosted at the third largest data center in the world.

I use Firefox on a Mac, and this site is slower than most. No big deal, just something I have noticed over time.

On the home page, I often click the wrong link when trying to access "The Board", because the buttons in the top menu jump around as it's loading.

This is definitely one of the faster sites I visit because of the absence of animated advertising; it's the animated advertising that slows a site down badly. The Garage Journal with Firefox is pretty fast for me.

Hm yes I have noticed the slow load too, up to 20 seconds sometimes, on two different computers I use (but both with IE7). I just tested and it does seem to happen only if you open the page in a new tab. If I just click to open in the same tab it is fast. I haven't noticed that happen on other forums I visit though....

Strange... I'm going to look into it... The site is really fast for me and tests out fine.
