for those, like myself in the colder climate areas. what temp do you keep your house or garage if kept heated. just curious is all, and a little bored today. i keep my house at 68, sometimes push it up to 69. drop it to 66 at night or when leaving for the day.

I have 2 furnaces in the house, the upstairs (sleeping area) one I use a digital stat that sets the temp down to 66* during the day and 68* before bed and back to 66* as we sleep. The main floor is at 68* all the time but my wife is a stay at home mom.In the garage its at 40* just to keep things from freezing and turn it up when I'm in there working. So that's 3 furnaces total...:headscrat The gas company loves me...

Too damn hot or too damn cold, I have to get up at night and switch it from A/C to Heat in the spring and fall when it gets below 60 at night, you would think a smart thermostat could figure that out for itself...
:headscrat

probably not going to get a lot of love from those of you living in the icebox...:lol_hitti

68 for a couple of hours in the AM as we get ready for the day. Maybe a couple of hours in the evening, too. Mostly we build fires, and I wear the stocking caps my wife knits for me.

Lotek look into a Honeywell 8000 thermostat . They are a touch svreen stat and have an auto setting that will switch from AC to Heat automaticaly . There is a 3* temp differance so heat would be at say 67* while ac was set at 70*. I use them alot here in Louisville and for the spring and the fall my customers love them.

I keep the house at 73, 24/7 only because the wife likes it warm.
I have the garage set at 50 when I'm not in it, bump it to 65 when I am working.

LOL Lotek mind you it isnt a cheap thermostat they can push $150-$200 but when adding it into a new system cost its not bad . I do alot of dual fuel systems here and that just happens to be one of a few stats that will work the system properly ( just happens to also have the auto setting which is a bonus for most folks) .

Actually what I would really like is something that integrated into the home computer, along with lights, alarm, sprinklers, etc, but the last time I looked, that stuff was beyond pricy. And there's also "Open the pod bay door Hal" :lol_hitti

I usually leave the house at 69 all the time, and the garage between 45 and 50 depending on if I'm planning on being out there in the near future.

No A/C in the house.

Heat is kept at 57 degrees at night and during the day (nobody home). 65 degrees from 5pm 'til 11pm.

Heat has cost me $900 so far this winter (propane).

Depends on what you call pricy, but you could have an "Automated"/internet enabled thermostat for as low as $220 for an all in one unit (BAYweb Internet Thermostat) or for a bit more, and what I use, a Venstar 7 day thermostat with an Insteon (like x-10 but more reliable) interface ($200) and then Homeseer software that runs on a always on pc ($200-$600). The homeseer software would get you the voice capability also, but you would have to a pc in the garage with a microphone. Its a bit of work to understand and implement but just like everything once you understand it, it will make sense. :)

House set a 21C during the winter and 22C AC for summer. Geothermal heat, so nightly setbacks aren't recommended.

Garage is whatever nature throws at it. Currently -29C outside, and -18C in the garage. Walls are insulated, ceiling wide open.

We stop adding wood when it hits about 64...usually wake up to about 55, hit 46 once in the morning! Burn no more than 6 logs a day or so.

Of course we spend about 300 a WINTER on wood. This year we cut our own wood to the tune of 30 bucks to heat the house this winter, but delivered we pay about 300. We have a small tight saltbox and many sweaters.:bounce:

I actually pay more to heat my garage than I do my house, my house is heated with NG and my garage I did with propane since I didn't want to cut up my concrete, which there is a lot of, and tie into my gas line. I really wanted to keep it seperate from the house and this was the cheapest way for me to do it initially, but I pay a higher price for my propane since I do not use a larger tank, so in the long run run I am paying more for sure. If this furnace gives out and cost too much to fix then I will problably go the NG route then.

if you using propane now you can change the orifices, to go over natural gas if needed

Well, we keep our house at 62 during the day and 58 at night. It started due to not being able to afford alot of heat 18 years ago, then you get use to it. Now if we get chilly and bump it up to 64 we feel like we are in the deep south....LOL

Calling for 18-24" of the white stuff here in the next 48 hrs, sounds like some snugglin weather.

oh and the garage is at what ever monther nature sets it at.....lol

Shop is still in my dreams / planning stages.

It may be something I look into this year. I will need to get me some cost estimates to cut my concrete and run gas line out to the garage and even talk to gas company about a seperate meter for my garage. I can do most all the work myself and that would help for keeping my cost down. Like some others have said, once you have heat in your garage you don't want to ga back to none for sure.
