I have recenlty had a career change, coming from being an Army SGT to now being an Apprentice Electrician.
One of the things i have had to get use to is, that if the boss is sick then i can't work.
The boss has been in hospital for the last two weeks, so i brought the work van home and got to work on some things that i have been meaning to do for the last 6yrs.
Prior to starting my apprenticeship i was one of those people that would rather have paid someone to do the work for me rather then do it myself.
So i am proud of what i have done and thought that i would share some of my projects with you guys.
Not all garage related, but i am sure you will forgive me for that.
So i started with a new garden shed.
Built on a sleeper box with some structural pine bearers on which i would mount the floor.
Started laying the floor, which is treated pine decking.
Shed supervisor made sure that everything was going to plan.
After the shed i decided to open up my garage a little more.
It use to be devided into two, with the main area for parking and a small workshop area that was just full of junk (that now resides in the shed).
(not the best photos - sorry)
At this point i was really hoping that this wasn't a load bearing wall, something i should have checked prior to knocking it down, turns out it wasn't.
I wanted to get everything up off the floor as the garage was not built water tight and we suffer from a bit of water intrusion when we get really heavy rain.
So here are some shelves that i built to be hung from the ceiling rafters at a perfect height so that i can walk straight under them without ducking.
Now i can have both of my VWs in out of the weather.
Now i started on the electrical jobs.
Throughout the garage i had old single fluro lights that didn't really throw out that much light.
So i went shopping and bought a few LED down lights and a couple of double defused fluros.
I started with putting some LED's in the eaves of the garage to give it that fancy look at night.
Next i moved inside the garage and put some more LED's in the wifes side (as it is the only side with a ceiling).
Then onto adding two fluros where there use to be one in the VW side of the garage.
Double fluro in my little workshop side.
And bought a little workbench whilst i was at it.
Relocated my light switched and combined them considering that they use to be scattered all over the garage and inconvieniant to get to when both cars are put away.
Moved inside the house next and finally did a bit of work that my wife had been bugging me to do for a while.
Have always been worried about mounting such large TV's on the wall, but i used enough screws into the beams and hollow wall anchors where there were no beams that i am sure that it would take an earth quake to get them off.
Bedroom TV mounted but cables still visable.
A few more holes in the wall and the cables are gone.
Now to the lounge room the hang the 50'
I bought some recessed mounting boxs as there isn't that much room behind the TV once it is mounted to house the power points and the AV cables and HDMI cables.
Finally finished with all cables run through the wall (tip for young players, take a photo of where the cables go, don't just unplug them and then try to remember where they go........like i did)
