greetings GJ,

i'm building a table top that one end (approx 1/3) will lift up with hinges. the table top is two 3/4" pieces of birch plywood glued together for a total of 1 1/2" thickness.

the portion that lifts on the table is heavy with 1/2" rubber matt glued to the bottom. a standard piano hinge will not be adequate.

i would like the seam i cut and the hinges i install to be as flush as possible. i'm trying to find the correct - offset x 1 1/2"? -hinge and use four of them across the 36" width of the table.

can anyone describe the type hinges i need for this job and where i might find them?

thanks for any input.

thanks turbo,

but the hinges i require must not be seen on the surface of the table top... they need to go down the inside edge and wrap under the bottom a little i would like to screw the hinges from underneath. i just don't know what they are called.

You might try Mcmaster Carr, or how about taking a strap hinge and bending the two leafs to resemble back to back Ls?

So you're wanting a tight seam on the tabletop with no gap and no hinge showing, and it has to hinge upwards?

That defies normal physics. You'll need to build a custom two stage hinge system
