I bought a box-lot of tools at an auction. Some mechanic tools, some telecom/CATV tools. But I came across these pliers with a gapped-jaw that I have never seen before (and I can't find on google). Any idea what they are?

I can't make out the brand name on the center. Something "Tools" (yeah, I know, real helpful).

Used in telcom stuff- to crimp connectors. (search K1, K2 crimping pliers, also called scotchlok, like above, who beat me to it!)

Sweet! I'm gonna keep those then. I always just used "regular" pliers when crimping scotch locks, now I can be all proper-like!

Proper like it to say no to scotch locks and throw them away.

Yep, I guess you could use those pliers to pick up the Scotch-Loks and drop them into the trash where they belong. At least that way you wouldn't have to touch the evil ******* things.

Nothing wrong with the telecom style in the first photo when used for that specific application, but please, never, ever, ever, ever use the ones shown in the second photo for anything, definitely not in a vehicle.

I occasionally use those telecom connectors. Not big fan. The idea is nice, but half of the time they don't make the connection. Maybe I'm doing something wrong (or maybe I have crappy ones), but I have much more success with other connector types.

Keep the pliers. Might be handy for other things.

Scotchlok connectors are older school. Picabonds are now used for a better connection. But can not be pried off. Pic of the connector and the manual press.

I agree you can't make a worse connection. twisting wires together and taping will last longer,

I have never seen Picabond used around here.

Those were used mostly in manholes, if a person had what was called a third hand they were very fast. The problem is if the enclosure they were in leaked it instantly caused cable trouble. These ms2's have replaced them but still have their problems.
