WE are under roof in our 36'x36'x12' high shop.
Obviously LED is the way to go.. Would you recommend the old style, say 48" shop lights or the newer style round LED lights?

any brands or offers you recommend?

36'x36'...is 9 lights enough?

Thank you,

Mike

4' "shop light" style LED fixtures. Cheap and they work well.

Costco put Feit LED shop lights on sale for about $20. They work for me.

Tough question. 3 rows of 3. Probably OK for general lighting, but depending on what you are working on, you may need as much as 4 rows of 4 or even 5. With a 12' ceiling you will need more than you think.

4' LED lights are the way to go.

9 sounds low for 36 x 36 if you plan on using the space for working rather than mostly for storage. I think 16 fixtures, 4 rows of 4, is closer to what you want.

I’m in a similar situation with 12’ ceilings. Been eyeing

TechBrite 48" 3 Lamp LED T8 Strip Fixture - 5000K - 8,019 Lumens - 120-277V
SKU: T443SSUBCXX00P0-18W5K

From prolighting.

They also do free layouts. Give them a try to get more educated, plus read the two sticky threads.

I am a firm believer in the old school strip lights. 4' and the 8' with four 4' lamps. Led lamps. If it were mine, they would be 18 watt, 5000k and have a clear lens. The fixtures can be purchased ready for the led tubes, or you can buy fluorescent fixtures and re-wire for the led tubes. The cost is about the same but obviously there is a little labor savings in the pre-wired fixtures. The nice thing about the led tubes is that if and when they fail, it's a matter of changing a tube. When a shop light fails, you change the fixture. In five years, I doubt you will find one to match what you have and that would bother me.

At 36X36, I would use three rows of four 8' fixtures. One 32' row about 8' in from each side wall and a 32' row right down the middle providing there is clearance for the overhead door(s).

Plus one for Costco!
I put 6 lights in my basement. It looks like daylight down there. Where it was totally dark and gloomy. There were also linkable. Up to 6 per circuit.
