Don't know where or when, somehow managed to lose my Craftsman reversible 9mm ratcheting combo wrench. Replaced it with a Gearwrench one I found at the swap meet. What $%^&*@! tool are you looking for right now you just can't seem to find?

one of my 5mm sockets fell into my engine bay last year. Never came out onto the driveway. Still wonder if somehow it's still in there...

An alternate reality in a parallel universe.
Matco13pc 3/8" drive 6pt shallow socket set in metal tray. I bought two of them back in the early 80's, one in my main box and one in my portable box, which I took it out and set it down somewhere in my garage or house and can remember telling myself that I need to remember that spot, and of course can't remember it....f'ing old age.

Black & Decker Workmate 500 from the early 90's that I loaned to a bag of **** I used to call my friend that moved out of state, taking it will my Remington powder actuated ramset gun, not the cheap one, the chrome one that looked like a pistol that split apart via an twist and hinge at its midpoint.

My TIF Ultrasonic leak detector, borrowed it to a friend who claims hever had it.

Matco 3/8" drive impact socket sets, standard and deep and 5 Matco impact extensions that my friend had and when died suddenly in an accident his family took everything, and I forgot about them because of the grief and by the time I remembered they were gone after the family scanvengers picked over everything.

Snap On 3/8" drive 8mm shallow socket, while opening the set up it flew out somewhere in my garage, of course I've even scoured my bolt bins and nada.

Chicago Pneumatic 5" disc sander, had two, one evaporated when I moved to the new house, possilby one of the friends listed above.

#1 is my Swiss made. red handled jewelers oxy acetylene outfit. Mine had a cutting torch as well as the welding tips and I've never seen another of them with a cutting torch. It went missing around when the vise went.

#2 is the rigid pipe cutter my dad gave me that grew legs when a number of "friends" helped me move. (You learn a lot about your friends after these things eh groveking?)

#3 6" Record vise stolen when I went off to a camp job long ago.

#4 My 5/16 Hazet whitworth wrench, it was just like the women I've always been attracted to, thin, trim, long and lean but with big ti.. ooops, we're talkin tools here, oh yeah uh

#5 is my big honking 1 1/4" X 12" cold chisel

#6 handmade ax I bought off the old timer who made it but I lost it 40 years ago when logging. I could go on, I lost a ton of tools when I left my possessions in the care of a relative 30 years ago. Mainly log building tools I'd collected over about a 10 year period consisting of unique antique broad axes, slicks, adzes and a lot of custom made new tools consisting of scribers, scorpes, gouges, baby adzes ... I.. I can't go on it's too painful

Not lost, broken. 1970's era Craftsman 1/4-20 tap. I bought a set in 1972 and finally busted the 1/4-20 tap after hundreds of threaded holes made.

The new stuff is visibly and mechanically not the same.

So far, no lost tools here. The Craftsman tools I bought 40 years ago are all still in my toolbox where they belong.

None!!!!!!! I've NEVER lost a tool in my life. I've given some away, and I've broken only a couple, but I've never outright lost one. Just following some simple rules has helped keep all my tools from getting lost or misplaced.

1. I very rarely, if ever, loan tools to anyone. Other than my dad, the answer is "No." Most people now know not to even ask me.
2. When I'm done with a job, I put the tools away. I try not to be lazy. When I'm done using them, I clean them off and I put them away. I don't leave them laying around when the job is done.
3. I try to keep my boxes neat and well organized. Every tool has a place, so if I see an empty space in a drawer, on a rack/holder, or a hook not holding anything, I know for sure that something is missing.
4. Vigilance........ Keep an eye on your tools. You spent way too much time and money collecting them.

A 2-1/2 foot long Craftsman pry bar with a bright red handle. I'm not kidding! I've looked for several months now with no results.

It was part of a 3-piece set, but i noticed the other day that they now have a 5-piece set. Hmm...maybe time for a new set of pry bars - what do you think?

I'm doing well with the tools in my chest but my work truck and daily tools are another story. I feel like I loose one tool a week.
Recent losses have been a so 7" file, craftsman 25' tape measure, kershaw onion knife, so 90* pick, and stubby hammer.
It's gets so frustrating.

A snap on CV91 ball joint/U joint press. Someone stole just the press so I still have all the adaptors but they don't work with the new snap on bjp1 press. So the adaptors are useless unless I can find another press frame. So if anyone knows where to find one please let me know! Don't have money for the new snap on kit.

My 1¼" Mac impact socket - just grew legs one day and disappeared.

The 12' Craftsman tape measure that used to live on the back of my hardhat - I never have found another one like it.

My new Linco slag pick that I only had for a day and a half before it disappeared.

I lost a Snap-on semi-deep 1/4" drive 5.5 mm socket on a one ton Chevy box van that I was R and R'ing an evaporator on for the second time this morning. I spent a half hour with a borescope and mirror and flashlight trying to find it. Talk about adding insult to injury!

Matco maroon hard-handled short prybar that I bought off the truck about 1988 has gone AWOL, along with a 10mm Proto combination wrench. I don't work for customers these days, no one else works out of my shop, and I've torn the place apart floor to ceiling looking for both of them. Someday they may show up, but for now they seem to have evaporated into thin air.

Kraueter needle nose pliers. My father, used to, then found them again, have a pair and I loved the size. Now, the closest to them are 7" long Crescent needle nose (which I have). But I would love to find him a back up set (he has lost a few tools).

A number of years ago I lost a Craftsman 1/4" drive spinner handle, 6" 1/4" drive flex extension and a 1/4" drive 1/4" socket in a customers car. Couldn't find it to save my life. I bought replacements and (you guessed it) 6 months later the same customer came back with another problem, I opened the hood and lo and behold ther in front of God and everybody were my "lost" tools! I've lost other tools (usually when loaned to co-workers) so now I do't loan tools (luckily my best friend is also a mechanic and never has to borrow anything).

2 Craftsman 1/4" drive sets in the grey plastic clam shells.

1 Snap-On 1/4" drive set in the metal clam shell from the USS SPERRY after it ran into the hwy.

1 MAC 1/4" drive set with deep/shallow, universal, extensions and a Easco driver cause the MAC one walkded away earlyer. My Uncle that lives in AZ took the set.

My top tray from the MAC chest loaded with tools, somebody walked by and it was gone! I had a very bad sour stomach when I walked back to the 73' Vega and ig was gone!

Thats enough for now, I am feeling the emotions again, sorry

Thanks, JASTECH
P.S. My dog is still missing but was seen and fed by my neighbor 1 mile away.

Within the past year I "lost" I mean was stolen a Craftsman slotted screwdriver the stubby with the full sized handle. I know the pos that took it.

Then I lost a brand new set of standard bonhaus Allen wrenches. I know when and where they went missing and I know who may have them. I just haven't been able to get a hold of the guy. He went to Africa.

Lost, not much, loaned/stolen a bunch. Don't you love it when they bring back the pieces? " Obviously something wrong with this, or it wouldn'ta broke, I'd take this back, Bro." Don't get me started on money and family!

As the OP and most people here know, I lost most every hand tool I had and some major shop tools to a horrific fire. A lot of generous people on the other board and this one donated some wonderful stuff to me. I have been hitting garage sales and swap meets with a vengeance. I have replaced a good deal of what was lost.
Unfortunately I failed to account for all the tools that were primarily plastic. Little stupid stuff like antifreeze testers and bottles of locktight. I will be doing repairs for the next year and need some little thing I no longer have. It is also frustrating to know you lost a 20-year-old USA product that is no longer manufactured here.

I can't think of any lost tools that I'm looking for.

But I've been trying to find my marbles for years....

For several years, I couldn't find the 5/16 female to 1/4 male adapter so I could use this T-handle with my 1/4 sockets:

snaponthandle.jpg

But I found it when I was changing over to a new set of toolboxes recently. It had fallen out of a drawer into the space between the bottom drawer & bottom of the old box.
