Well damn the bad luck. I’ll take a wild *** guess. I used to have an American lathe, she was a beast and similar in construction. It looks like that tray is set up for either a oils or coolant return and with all the adjustments I’m thinking maybe some type of valve seat cutter

I obviously don’t know, but what I do know is that base would make for one hell of a cool grinder or ? Base.

I was going to post basically the same thing: It's basically a very heavy duty sewing machine. It was intended for boots, but people use them for all sorts of leatherwork, sewing furs and hides for fur coats, and/or heavy canvas, Cordura and nylon strapping.

It's basically valueless unless it's in working condition- and if it's good working and reliable, they can be valuable to the right person.

Saw a similar machine last Friday morning at a local museum. Chippewa Falls, WI, was the home of Mason Shoes and in the past all their shoes were made in the city, but now are made overseas. A display about the shoe industry had a similar machine, but I was at the museum before this thread was started so no pics.

The huge cast iron base might be able to be repurposed, if the price is cheap enough. (If it would be a usable height.)

Why in the world would you even consider buying it when you have no idea what it is?
