What miter saw

I have a few projects coming up and need a miter saw the first one is a Pergo floor installation then some trim work and next year is a new deck. So the largest material i plan on cutting at this time is a 2X6. Anything over that the skill saw can handle. I have read some of the reviews on Lowes and Home Depot but would like real world opinions. Other sources are welcome and im not locked on one brand even tho most of my power tools are Craftsman or Dewalt. My budget for this is less then $300.

I have a older Porter Cable with twin laser guide and I really like having the laser. I and my father in-law have bought from the above site with noe problems.

you might be able to get a decent dewalt or rigid 12in non slider for 300 or so, look used as well, i see decent setups on criagslist all the time

I just bought the 12" Dewalt double compound non-slider at Home Depot to replace my 25 year old 10" Makita. I went to Lowes and the saw was $339.00. Home Depot was selling it for $399.00. I mentioned that to the guy at Depot and they called Lowes to verify and then matched it plus an additional 10%. I paid $305.00. This saw is really nice. I was in Depot yesterday and they are still selling the same saw for $399.00 so if Lowes still has it for $339.00 go back to Depot and save more $$$

Brought this one home tonight. In my opinion it was the bast bang for the buck out there at least for me and what i will be using it for. The only one that offered everything that this one has was another $200. Made a few test cuts and it cuts real nice. First Lowes I went to was out of stock so on my way to another one I stoped at Home Depot and was not impressed with what they had to offer at all. Plus the customer service at Lowes blows Home Depot away.

I have the 10inch one and got it at lowes at their 4th of july sale for 99 bucks. Its great saw. Don't get to use it as much as I would like but works great on some trim.

I have had this one for 6 yrs now and still going strong. Have cut tons of 2x6's when I did a roof rebuild of my old shop. And a partial deck rebuild a couple yrs back. Good saw for the money. Just take a few minutes and square up the fence with the blade and chop away.

I had the DeWalt SCMS and it was "ok" . After I was hurt and handicaped the DW was to hard to pull down and blows a lot of dust/chips towards the front along with the backside, being on O2 this is not good. I have now ordered the Hitachi 12" scms with laser. The 5yr warranty on Hitachi helped seal the deal. I could do a full review once it arrives as it was special ordered via Home Cheapo online with telephone.

I use a 99 dollar 10" Ryobi and an antique 8" Ryobi (Ryobi= Ridgid) both with very good blades. Not the wonderful saw a Bosch compound sliding or Milwaukee CS are, but plenty good enough for jobsite trim work. And I can carry them w/o busting a nut.

I can handle up to 10' on either side if I use stands.

Also, with Pergo flooring you may need a diamond blade or the like do to pergo having metal in it I think. Could be incorrect. JMHO

Well, you can handle 20' with horses or stands. I just think pull out extensions about the width of the whole base would be a real neat thing to add to what is a great mount. I seem to find that something about 3-4 feet out handles most cuts.
