Looks like a special edition MB1300/MB1310 combo. They were MACs flagship box in the mid to late 90's. List price for both was right at 7 grand in 1994.

Looks like a dressed up Tech 1000 to me. If it is its one grade up from craftsman and I wouldn't put much in it, if its the 1300 1350 mentioned above i think its one of the best boxes ever built. I really don't think its the 1300 1350 because the bottom box has no center shelf (or brace) between the long top drawer and the 1st set of split drawers, the 1300 does.

Is there a difference in depth between the Tech 1000 and MB13xx boxes? Perhaps you could get him to give you a measurement and we can go from there.

Could also be an 1800 series Macsimizer. One of our guys at work has one, it's built as heavy duty as a normal Macsimizer, but it's kind of half way between a Tech 1000 and a 1350 in size.

It is a very crappy picture, the drawer arrangment makes me think it is a mb1300, but it looks narrow. A 1300 is 67" wide by 27 depth, 1800 is 56 or so wide by 24 depth. Same overall construction, but a 1300 is just bigger. That is a macisimizer since it has the fancy trim on the wide drawer. As for the "shelf", only early macisimizer had the shelf, latter verison didn't have it.

Your eyes are better than mine. I can't see that much detail in that crappy picture.

Yeah box dimensions would definitely help.

So if I am understanding what you guys are saying..it may be a MB 1800? I am likely going to go and check it out Saturday. Where could I find the Tag on it? Also if it is a MB1800...whats the going price for a used one?

Used boxes are pretty much the same as used truck brand tools: it starts being a deal around 50% of retail, adjustments made for age and condition. That's way oversimplified, but it's a start. (I see stuff on craigslist for 95% of retail, and they think it's discounted!)

Can you tell me more about the Tech 1000? Local guy has one for sale, but if it's one grade from Craftsman, I'd pass.

i have a 60th anniversary tech 1000 top and bottom and i would NOT compare it to a craftsman in any way. mine is built like a tank the slides all work great loaded down and it has given me no problems at all.

Of all the low-end truck boxes, I'd take a Tech series well before I looked at a Snap-On KRA series or Matco 4s. They seem really well constructed for what they cost.
