In three years, I've seen exactly two listings for Soviet-made socket sets on Ebay. here's one of them that was listed some time back:

Other than being a rather odd set up in comparison to contemporary US or Asian-made stuff, it doesn't appear to be anything less than adequate for the task at hand.
(The "socket" at left is a connector piece. The long cylindrical bar at top slides through the holes on each side of the connector, into which the male-to-male drive extension fits. We call it a "Sliding T-bar".)
