Channellocks or equivelent in various sizes, regular slip joints from about 3" on up, bent needle nose, the real real long needle nose pliers, I can't remember the name. There are prolly several that escape memory at the moment.

Depends what you do in life or what type of work you will be getting into. There are 100's of types of pliers out there. You want people to list them all?

In that case, it sounds like you have most of what you will probably ever need... add to your collection as further needs arise. My .02.

Job specific, but when you need them nothin else will do, internal and external snap ring pliers. A must have in my book! Another handy but not necessary kind of pliers are the hose pinch off type.

+1... snap ring pliers are a must. Milbar are probably tops, but I have been happy with the craftsmans too. They are strikingly similar, I see no difference in thier performance, I have Milbar 90* bent, craftsman straight and craftsman interchangeable tip pliers... All have served me well. The craftsman pliers I am refering too are about 20, and they come with different tips you lock in. You can also convert them from internal to external, but if you have moderatly strong fingers, for most application,s you can get away with only one or the other. You dont really need the big sets of the different pliers, Most of the time I use the straight ones anyway.

Also, Flat needle nose... aka duckbills. For wire cutters, make sure you have them in 8 inch for the leverage, its nice to have needle nose in 6 and 8, and I say 8 inch duckbill. For working on a car I have only had to use channelocks a few times, so you dont need absolute top of the line.

Get yourself a pair of the small needle nose visegrips as well... great for holding things.

Check your sears for a clearance on thier pliers... mine was having one on 6 inch pliers... picked up 6 inch needle nose and box joint pliers, came out to be 11 for the two... snagged the last needle nose... I wanted another one.

For pliers, the majority of my regular pliers are craftsman... western forge. They have actually held up really well. My snap on wire cutters are awesome too, but very expensive. Vise grips are tops, dont worry about the comfort handle, it gets annoying.

Another down side to comfort grips on some tools is, adding to the overall size of the tool makes it a poor choice for limited access applications.

Amen on the curved nose needle nose pliers! I find myself always reaching for them also. I have a pair of the SK ones and love'em.

Miniature pliers are a big help with some applications where a normal size plier won't fit. I have a couple sets. This one and a similar set with extra long reach(no pic of that set). Sorry about the poor quality of the picture. It is the one I use on Ebay.

I should take some pics of the rest of my pliers. I have a set of mini pliers from Lowes I think... "Task Force?" Anyway, they were given to me. They resemble the standard Cman mini pliers a lot... made in China, too. But they have served me well both times that I have needed them.

haha thats sick!

I dont really own too many duplicate pliers... I can only use two at the same time, and its generally not a good idea. I DO own duplicate sets of sickets though... Keep them on different ratchets, maybe one on the air ratchet one on a hand ratchet... thats more of a convenience thing though lol

If you aren't ever finding yourself without the type you need to do a job then you don't need any more pliers. If you are more a tool collector then you definately need at least one of everything listed above.

I keep a set of klein and/or wiha pliers (linesman, needle nose, needlenose curved, cutters, multi function wire stripper/crimper) in my "electrical only" tool box so they are always clean and not beat up from mechanical use. The box is also where my insulated screwdrivers and such are. Most of the stuff in there is duplicate of other stuff I have but I like having a complete electrical kit all together. The box also has a compartment built into the lid for various wire nuts, ties, connectors, etc.

Beyond the typical channel locks and such in my mechanical arsenal, I get a lot of use out of my craftsman mini-pliers set, snap-ring pliers and some mini channel locks that I think I got in an ignition wrench set.

Not really pliers, but since you already mentioned Vise Grips...a few sets of 6R's, 11R's and 6SP's and 11SP's would be really handy...
