Ratchets and extensions. I have somewhere around 50 different ratchets spread across 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" drives, plus a couple of 3/4" drive ratchets. I like having different ratchets for different tasks, so that's my excuse. I actually think I do have too many extensions, but it is what it is.

I have a ton of Dual 80 ratchets, but they are all different sizes/styles. In general, I'm pretty good about not buying duplicates. I would much rather have a broad collection than spend money buying stuff I already have.

I don't really collect tools however I have anything I could possible need . Pretty heavy on wrench's. Lots of wrench's, all shapes and sizes, I like snap-on wrench's, especially special ones like offset, xtra long/short, line wrench's, the list goes on.

It would be easier to post the tools that I am a bit light on!

That would be 1/2" drive, Non-impact, Metric deepwall sockets, that are name brand American made. Hope to post my socket excess sometime next week.

Still, it's almost impossible to find a 1/2", 9/16", or 3/4" wrench or socket in his boxes. Those are the most common US engine sizes and they get chewed up like popcorn.
We do this too. We can find them though due to the fact we shopped them up to a near saturation level. It is kind of how we ended upo with some imports, tarted buying them off the singles racks and tubs, they worked better than we thought they would.
It let us get out from under a problem for a few bucks a size.
All the golf carts, pickup trucks, crane trucks and tractors have a few wrenches circulate thru them and save the day most every day when busy and are not so valuable we have to worry to tears, Some been around a while, still don't care to use them as they are well proven and dependable.

I have too many (2 sets) of those stupid "Robo-grip" pliers. I thought they were going to be the best things ever and what a disappointment. I have fairly strong hands and since these are spring activated I find them to be almost unusable and normally opt for Channel locks instead.

T 50 bit sockets, uni-bits, hex drive nut setters and cheap insert bits. I tried to give away a box of inset bits but couldn't find anyone to take them.

You pick the category; I have waaaaay too many! My therapist says I have a problem! :bounce:

What does your therapist do when they need to fix something? I'm guessing they hire a mechanic who has a lot of tools to fix things with. Is that how they try to get out of having a problem? Why would a therapist have a problem with how many tools a person owns? Are there any therapist out there who are members of The Garage Journal? Will they try to explain themselves?

Craftsman sockets and open combination box wrenches. Every time I lose or misplace a set from moving house I buy a set only to find them later.

Combination wrenches, and sockets. I just can't stop myself from buying decent sets at garage sales.

Also, needle-nose pliers. There was a stretch where I was losing them left and right, so now I hoard them like crazy.

Craftsman sockets.

For years, everyone thought that the best present for me for any occasion was at least one small or big set of Craftsman sockets of all sizes. I have a set of all of the ones I think they ever made in my too chest, and about 400 more in a couple of boxes on a shelf. Add about 8 to 12 too many ratchets of each size and type too. Several dozen extra wrenches too. All USA made from the early 80's to 2010 when I finally put a stop to it.

Thank God I don't wear ties.

Come to think about it, I just realized that I haven't bought a Craftsman socket in decades.

I have 4 service carts and usually have as many motorcycles on lifts at any given time. I do a lot of custom work so a bike could end up being on the lift for awhile waiting for parts to be made, painted, chromed or powder coated. Each lift has a dedicated service cart with the tools and parts needed and used for the bike in it and they stay in it till bike is done. That's how I justify to myself having what none GJ members would call too many ratchets, sockets, pliers, screwdrivers, ect. Most laymen would call it excess I guess but it works for me and gives me an excuse to buy more tools, cause ya still need some for that bike that needs a quick tune up or the occasional service call, not that I need much of an excuse haha

General Contractor, I've got a tool trailer that gets parked on every job that will last longer than a day. I've got my truck stocked to the point that I could build a house from the ground up and never park my tool trailer on site. I've got a shop behind the house and I refuse to steal tools from my truck or trailer to do shop work.

I have 6 sets of different types of wrenches. I think I have way to many honestly.

Some people probably end up with tools from deceased relative's estates. When I thought about the guys with bunches of hammers I thought about how a person could hire a bunch of nail drivers to build a house and hand each of them a hammer to do the job.

Then I thought about how many pairs of locking pliers I have. There have been several times I needed more than one pair of locking pliers to clamp down on some pieces of material in order to get them to properly align for fasteners or straighten a mechanical joint. It seems like you can never have enough tools.

I have eight 1/4" ratchets, plus a gearwrench two handle driver set, a t-handle and regular driver. My wife thinks I have a problem. I still 'need' two more to be happy. One is the elusive snap-on TSLF936. Then my life would be complete.....

I go by the law I formulated years ago, " if you need one and have one it will break immediately. If you need one and have two the first one will last forever".

Worst experience, on the road changing a fuel pump on an International truck and having my one 3/8" drive ratchet lock up. That was in 1962. I have never had one of any drive size ratchet since.

Too many hammers now but when building our place everyone needed a hammer.

Too many tape measures but when building, 5 would be missing so I'd buy more. By the time we finished and borrowed ones returned and broken ones tossed, there are still 10+.

Too many old 18 v nicad cordless tools with 8 dead nicad packs. Hate to toss them but I'm not going back to nicads.

Too many flatblade screwdrivers. Only the phillips ever fail and you're left with the rest of the set. I must have 30 flatblades and am still down to 1 or 2 phillips left.

Too many SAE wrenches, I work on lots of metric stuff and have 3 of most metric sizes except the missing ones. I must have 10 of each SAE size but to be fair because of farming only 3 sets sit in the box in the shop.

I'm light on 3/4 drive stuff, I need metrics and deep metric and sae impacts. Light on 1" drive stuff too.

Off the top of my head, I'd have to say 16oz curved claw hammers. When my Father passed away I inherited a box full, must be a couple dozen, lol.

I noticed many DIY'ers own just too many of the same-sized overlapping / drive ratchets, sockets, screwdrivers, pliers, hammers, and so on. :bounce: Have you ever wondered what Particular Hand Tools You Own In Excess?

Hopefully, I won't get the immediate response with the following emoji, :wtf::shocking:
Haha

Post pictures while you're at it!

Ok the words are English, but it still doesn't make any sense. Can someone explain this post to me? :headscrat:bounce:

I have too many cheap tools. You know the ones that come with every assembly project. Hell the new planer came with 2 wrenches and two allen wrenches beside the narrow adjustment wrench that is actually needed. I'd think if you can afford and need a 1200.00+ planer you should already have the basic sizes required and it shouldn't include them.
