My son is trying to sell this box. He is shooting for $9500 no luck so far not even low ballers. Any idea what price it might move at or where to advertise? Located in Deland, Florida.

Being a triple bank with hutch I'd say probably 5000-6000.

4500 for the triple bank seems common and add another 1500 for the hutch as the accessories aren't often sold separate.

These are just the common prices by me. Regionally it could fluctuate a fair bit.

Well, here in the SF Bay area, a Matco triple bay, with Snap-on tools, is sitting almost 3 weeks at $7k. Don't know if your son's has tools included

A new triple bank lists for $14k but the out the door price from a dealer is probably closer to 10k or less. I'd estimate half the out the door new price which would be around $5k. Maybe add 1k for the hutch. It's usually a buyer's market for boxes and used SO boxes are worth much less than MSRP and can be a tough sell.

In this economy it is likely going to be a rough sell even at $5k. People are afraid, and really nine grand is a great deal of money. People are also researching much more and trying to figure out just what that buys you, or could buy you aside from half a year of house payments.

I would say if he really needs the money he might get lucky at half the price.....depends on your area. If he is just making a life change and does not need it anymore, put a feeler out every few months and see if you get lucky.

Good luck.

Will the Snap-on man do consignment sales? People that buy expensive boxes typically finance them.

Toolbox prices are very regional. Out here in CA, it seems like inventory continues to be scarce. I paid $5K for a 68" epiq last year and I have yet to find another one for sale.

The anniversary edition/ most special edition snapon boxes don't increase the value of the box 1 bit. Most special editions every dealer could buy at least 1 of so there's 2,000+ out there of each special edition so they aren't really that special though it's used as a selling point.

Retail on that setup looks like $21,845 new off the truck. The newer hutches are taller and I'm assuming that box doesn't have a power drawer. My coworker paid $7k for a new 72" master series bottom box with power drawer, speed drawer, and no top last year. Depending on if it was ordered or an in stock "special" box that setup is probably $10-$14k off the truck new without trade in and the rep offers easy financing.

Considering it has the hutch and top that helps the value I'd think $7k would be a very high cash price, $5k and it might move somewhat quickly, $3,500 would be a smoking deal and probably have it gone tomorrow. I could see a rep giving him his asking price in trade in value on a new box or other snapon equipment.

Another option would be getting a hold of 1st state tools on facebook. They sell a ton of large snapon boxes on the east coast and might give him a decent offer.

Why is he trying to sell it?

Let’s say I bought one of those anniversary boxes with the logos and slogans and such… does that stuff come off? Or is it under a clear coat? How does that work?

They are just stickers. Usually they are shipped with out the stickers installed and the rep installs them.

He was getting too fed too much warranty flat rate work which only pays half the rate at the dealship. So he is now a truck driver.

Has he talked with his rep yet about what his rep can do? I'm guessing it's financed through snapon?

I'd make sure he's 100% not going to go back to turning wrenches before dumping the box. CDL drivers who can turn wrenches are in demand.

I'm curious what 1st state offers. They didn't have anything comparable for sale currently to get an idea what they would ask for it.

The hutch is a disadvantage to buyers not worried about needing to lock up tools at night -- a lot of them (like me) would prefer the top of the cab to be free so it can be a work surface.

Pretty much just letting him deal with it, just wanted to get a realistic expectation of what he could sell it for and it's obviously not as much as he owes on it. I will mention getting in touch with Snapon.

I made a living with a 250 dollar used Matco bottom box and a 250 dollar top Snap On. Still have it.

$9500 for that S/O box would be a good deal in this area. I used to buy and sell toolboxes. If I bought it, it would be for myself and not a resale. I would happily make that box mine and pass along my MAC box.
The asking price would not leave me any "margin". I like the look.

Back in the day when I had a money was no object job I would have certainly considered that box at $9,500. Hard to justify today "maybe" $5k IDK. Looking at new Harbor Freight ICON scratch and dent boxes for far below that. I like Snap-on always have but not sure their boxes really command the $**,*** prices with other good alternatives available today. Not sure how actual mechanics ever justified the new prices... GLWS.

In most cases, it's probably the same way that people justify expensive cars on low incomes...you are buying a payment not the price tag

Fair enough. I still don't get it. Had big finance payments due Snap-on for tools for many years. Put them in trade in Macs that I paid cash for lol. I did have a 26" Snap On top box with friction slides for many years. Could never justify the big boxes. My current boxes are 40" (I think) Snap on that I bought used full of many Snap on tools. Sold the tools box cost me nothing...

Clean it up, clear away any clutter on/around it, take too many pictures of all angles, drawers, etc, and advertise it everywhere you can (facebook marketplace, craigslist, offer up, any local classifieds, etc), and drop some flyers at local garages, race tracks, etc, at the price you want to get for it. be sure to mention what you paid for it (not what you might still owe) and be willing to haggle a little for any serious offers.

That's what I'd do anywho.

EDIT: I'm not familiar with snap-on financing clauses, but I'd make doubly sure it's ok to sell it. If there is money still owed on it I'd check the fine print as it may not be yours to legally sell until it's paid off. If that's the case getting the dealer it's financed though to sell it for you on consignment might be the best bet for both of you.

In my area boxes go for crazy high asking prices, but they sit unsold for a long time because let's face it, not many people have 9k large sitting in their pockets. I think like the other's 5k would be a fair asking price.

Agee with the post to take clutter free pictures. If he wants a quick sale, 3,500 - 5,500 range. In the used market you are competing with Harbor Freight, tool dealers and the ability to finance purchases.

I think it’s risky to take a large down payment and accept the rest in weekly payments, but that’s what the tool trucks do.
Does Dad have room in his garage for the box, he will never get what he has it in and may regret selling the box In the future. Of course priced at the lower range of the market.
Last idea is clean pictures on eBay with a reserve, you may get lucky with a high price.

This the typical downfall of big buck truck boxes bought new on credit .
Easier sell would be 6 to 7K but need be proper clean, good effort on photos and advertised every where .
Special edition boxes don't tend be that special when reselling .
He might be best seeing what his snapon guy can do for him and technically it probably not private sale possible if not paid off .

I had wondered about the private sale bit because I have heard of tools and boxes being repossessed. Which means they have some type of lien or ownership in it. Probably will bite the bullet and keep paying it off. I can give him ideas but kids are not that hot on advice from parents anymore.

USD not Canadian. That would mean he would be selling it for $13,000 Canadian.

Hello Dalez, I hope all is well with you and all of your loved ones.

I stumbled on your thread on your son's tool box. I wanted to share this link so that you can get some rough ideas on prices acroos the U.S. some have shipped for a price, some free shipping, etc.
There is also a link to what is actively selling right now.

I hope it helps.

Be well and stay safe out there. Best wishes to you and all of your loved ones always.
