What PSI/BAR?

I tradet in my old air compressor and got me a brand new one.
I'm trying to decide on what PSI/BAR it should start and stop at!
The way I have it set up now it starts on 8BAR/116PSI and stops at 10BAR/145PSI. I can't go any higher than 10BAR but I'm thinkig of making it start on 6BAR/87PSI.

Any ideas?

Mine kicks in at 100psi and off at 150psi. If you go too low, it takes too long to get back up to pressure. But I guess if you go too high it'll kick in too often.

If it is a single stage then 115 to 120 psi will help the metal reed type valve last longer. Higher psi will over heat the valve and shorten it's life.

If it's a two stage 160 to 180 is ok.

I have a single stage 5hp 60 gal that has been in use since 1981 without problem. I have it set at 115 psi and have never had an issue with sufficient air supply to the tools.

It should have come preset to the pressures the manufacturer intended it to be operated at.

My system is set up with a separate tank and compressor. The tank is inside my garage and the compressor in a shed on the outside. It didn't come as a pre fab'd system. That way I have completed it with the parts of my own choise. Thats why I'm adjusting it, to get the best performance out of my compressor and because I have to

Listen to lh4x4...too high will shorten the life of the compressor. Most air tools are rated at 95psi. I have my cut in at 105, cutout at 125, and a regulator (and filter + water trap) in the shop set at 95psi with air flowing. Has worked great for many years now.

You didn't really tell us anything yet about what IT really is..... So does it have a separate pump & motor?. Brand? Size, Hp rating, what you spinning it at ? What is it rated for? ? Well, I'd check the pump manufacturer's specs.. You didn't say if its single or two satge, what you have it spinning at and what its rated for. Keeep it in the range of what it's made for! That's for the rpm range & pressures.
