My pole barn is going to be used for a hobby woodworking shop. I'll keep the temperature around 40-45 when not in there and 55-60 when working in there. When I need to spray waterborne finishes I'll get it up to 68-70. I plan on heating it with a propane ceiling mount heater.

My walls will be R-19 and the bottom of my trusses are 2x8's. My ceiling and walls will be 7/16" OSB. What R value should I do for the blow in ceiling?

Or put your location (state, province, country etc.) in your profile. Any answer to your question is useless without your location.

Omaha, NE area which is zone 5.

What are the dimensions of your structure?

Have you considered partitioning off a section and use it as your spray booth?

Is the heater a sealed combustion unit? If not it can put a lot of water in the air. I would put at least an R-30 in the lid.

As much as will fit and you can afford.

That is a SERIOUS reply ! With ceiling insulation, MORE is always better !

I put R60 in mine. I have a steel ceiling, trusses 8' on center and the builder wasn't concerned with the weight. :dunno: How far apart are your trusses and how much weight can OSB handle per sq/ft at that span?

I am in zone 5 also (eastern Idaho) and I went with R21 in walls and R60 blown in (18" of cellulose) in ceiling.
It is excellent, requiring very little gas to heat in winter.
