What saw (s) do you take camping?

Just got back from a trip to Hawaii and while in a campground I noticed one of the campers with using a cordless reciprocating saw to cut firewood. Of course, he was car camping and not backpacking so no big deal for carrying the saw. Over the years I've come to prefer either a folding Sven saw which is basically a triangular shaped bowsaw or a Gerber / Fiskars folding pruning saw. Sadly, I haven't carried a hatchet in years.

What types of firewood cutting tools do you take when camping?

Hard to beat the folding Gerber saws. I do have a cheap non folding hardwood handled saw I bought at a Big Lots store years ago that is still going strong.

Silky!

But a Bahco Laplander is cheaper and lighter, but a third less efficient seemingly.

The Silkys have more invested in tooth geometry and are just a pleasure to use.

I used to use a Gerber folding saw but a good friend got me a Gomboy 240 for Christmas after I tried and liked the one he has. Its a nice 10" blade folding lock blade saw that comes in a snap shut hardshell case. Made in Japan and great quality. That sucker will flat CUT! and is small enough to slip in a day pack.

The saw along with a Gransfors felling axe and a wildlife hatchet cover my needs nicely.

Nowadays, i take my old Homelite. I Like a Big *** fire. :lol_hitti

In my back packing days I carried a Sven type saw, always worked for me.

Big *** fire hell yeah I'm with ya. If I'm doing some more established camping I just bring a half a truck bed full of fire wood with me and split for kindling on site as needed.

Over the summer I purchased this from amazon:

This thing is awesome. I generally backpack and very rarely car camp so its bring what you can carry. These are small, relatively light, and go through 4 inch logs way faster than a hatchet. Before that I carried an SOG tomahawk for a while. I like the pocket saw way better. They have a smaller 24 inch version but I like the extra length.

I like to have a bow saw. For backpacking and kayak camping I like to have a folding one. the best was a sawvivor, but it's not made anymore for some reason. I didn't like the sven saw because it didn't take regular bow saw blades. so I found this Coghlans Folding Saw at thios link here at first I was scared of the Coghlans name, but this is really well made

It's $25, and takes regular 21" bow saw blades which are available everywhere. this is absolutely the best way to prep firewood in the back country.
