What should Bolster's next survey be about?

So I had to reactivate my SurveyMonkey account for a client, and while it's live, may as well use it to pick up some tool data. You've already seen my Wrench Brand survey, and my currently running Ratchet Brand survey.

What should my next survey look at? Give me some ideas. May as well use my SurveyMonkey account for the "general good" since I'm paying for it anyway.

All seriousness aside, maybe engine oil brands, screwdrivers, cordless drills, etc. just to name a few. I'm kinda hoping to stick with the vintage theme though.

I think 4-in1 screwdrivers will get a lot of erroneous hits because too many people will vote for it as a generic term, not knowing that is a brand name.

Just for the record, I would like to see a survey of USED tools by brand that each of us would buy at a "good" price, NOT a bargain, solely to keep for our own use. I specifically am interested in wrenches, sockets, and drive tools.

For example, we would ALL pay $1 each for used Snap On, Proto Los Angeles, or Plomb hand tools, because we all know they are worth much more than that. But what brands would we all buy if they were just at a "respectable" price, with little or no profit motive available.

For example, I buy every Plomb tool I find at a bargain price...as do we all. But I might also buy a Snap On or Mac tool that I would find for sale at a price that is "good", but not good enough that I could sell it at a profit (if I needed one for my own tool box).

The point is that I like LOTS of brands of USA or Euro-made tools, and will buy all that I find at bargain prices. But because I have an affinity for Mac and Snap On, I might tend to buy them to keep for myself, knowing there was no profit margin left.

Does any of that make sense? I think I have confused myself by now!

Bolster Hi,

I would like to see a survey on what tools to avoid at all costs. For example I have been hearing how bad the new craftsman ratchets with the plastic parts are,versus the older style ratchets.

Or to avoid the newer style detent craftsman sockets versus the older sockets...

I would like very much to see that kind of survey what to look for in a great tool versus what to avoid because of poor engineering.

Hi Woody, quick response here -- your question falls under "qualitative data," where the best way to get responses is just to start a thread and ask that question: "What tools should I avoid at all costs?" or whatever. See what you get.

The survey engine I'm paying for monthly (which is why I want to use it now!) is best for quantitative data...things that are best represented by numbers.

While it's technically possible to represent "tools to avoid" with numbers, that sort of question is not easily managed by a "check the box" type of survey (unless you collected your qualitative data first). Stick with words, rather than numbers, is my advice for that question.

(Maybe the answer is, "Avoid new C-man." LOL! That was uncalled for. I apologize.)

I thought about this for weeks maybe even months well actually a few seconds. A survey of what people think of about surveys. Are they helpful in deterring what brand or model to buy or not. I have read lots of glowing reviews on Duralast Ratchets but when I checked one out in the store I found it to be the roughest ratchet I have ever felt.
